A towering dinosaur could soon become Tulsa’s next roadside attraction.
The City of Tulsa's Arts Commission has approved plans for a 66-foot fiberglass dinosaur statue to be installed in Howard Park, located along Southwest Boulevard next to Interstate 244 in Tulsa. It’s the latest addition to the city’s effort to celebrate and revitalize the Route 66 corridor.
The statue will be built by the same creators behind the popular Buck Atom and Stella Atom figures on 11th Street, which have become standout landmarks and selfie spots for locals and tourists alike.
This new installation is expected to add a similar boost to Tulsa, where city leaders hope more public art will bring visibility and foot traffic.
Organizers say about half of the funding for the dinosaur is already secured. Additional fundraising efforts are underway, and the statue still needs a few more approvals before construction can begin.
The timing is no coincidence. Route 66 celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026, and organizers hope to unveil the dinosaur in time for the centennial festivities. The goal is to have the statue completed and installed sometime next year.
This project is part of a broader effort to enhance public spaces and promote Tulsa’s slice of Route 66 history. With the centennial on the horizon, city officials and community members are working to make Tulsa a key stop along the historic highway.
