The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation identified the man who shot multiple rounds at officers before he was hit Saturday afternoon.

The Garvin County Sheriff's Office said deputies with the sheriff's office, along with officers from the Pauls Valley Police Department, were fired at by the unidentified man from inside a home around noon Saturday.

The man has since been identified as 39-year-old William Philpott.

An off-duty Pauls Valley officer called 911 after Philpott threatened her and her family. When officers from multiple agencies arrived, Philpott went back inside the home and returned outside wearing body armor and carrying firearms.

Philpott fired at officers for more than two hours, according to the OSBI.

Around 2 p.m., Philpott raised a pistol at Lighthorse police who then shot the man three times. Philpott was taken to a hospital in Oklahoma City.

The suspect remains hospitalized, but he will be transported to the Garvin County Detention Center after he is released from hospital care.

OSBI said the case happened in Indian Country and involved both Native and non-Native people, so the investigation will be under state and federal jurisdiction as previously determined in the McGirt ruling by the United States Supreme Court.
