From going to a prayer service Tuesday morning to getting ready to celebrate his 85th birthday, Clyde Cain died after being hit by a car in his church's parking lot.
"Nahum 1:7; The Lord is good. He is our help in times of trouble, and he knows those who trust in him," said Blake Gideon, the senior pastor at Edmond's First Baptist Church.
Gideon shared the verse taught at the prayer meeting Tuesday morning as Cain left his church when another man hit him in the parking lot.
Cain was a husband, father, grandfather and a longtime member of the church.
"Clyde is the type of man who is a godly man. One of the godliest men I know," said Gideon.
Gideon said he learned a lot about the Cain family on Tuesday when he went to the wife's house to let her know her husband's death.
"She immediately prayed for the other gentleman involved," said Gideon.
It's still early in the investigation, and as of now, police are investigating the crash as an accident.
"We will do our customary investigation, but it's just a very sad situation not only for our victim's loved ones but a friend who caused this. It's going to be a very hard time right now and for this church community," said Emily Ward with the Edmond Police Department.
As for the passage taught Tuesday, Gideon hopes will get everyone through this tragic event.
"Despite all of this, the Lord is good. He is our help in times of trouble. He knows those who trust in him," said Gideon.
Gideon asked for the public and his congregation to continue to pray and send thoughts to both families involved.
He said Cain died with his Bible in his hand.
