The OSBI Commission announced his appointment during a special meeting Tuesday, signaling a push for stability and renewed focus within the agency.

Who is new OSBI Director Greg Mashburn?

Mashburn, who has served as the top prosecutor for Cleveland, Garvin, and McClain counties for 18 years, previously announced his retirement. His career has been defined by victim advocacy, strong collaboration with law enforcement, and reforms aimed at improving case management. Recognized as Oklahoma’s Outstanding District Attorney in both 2008 and 2024, he will officially step down from his current role on March 1.

What happened to the previous director, Aungela Spurlock?

His transition to the top spot at the state's premiere investigative agency comes after a year of controversy surrounding the leadership of former OSBI Director Aungela Spurlock’s. Spurlock resigned in January following scrutiny from the OSBI Commission, which had raised concerns about agency morale and management. Her push for changes to OSBI’s oversight structure—reducing the governor’s control over appointments—sparked tensions with the commission. As pressure mounted and a performance review loomed, she stepped down.

Mashburn brings extensive experience to the new role, including leadership positions on state oversight boards. Since 2015, he has served on the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control Commission, where he has held multiple leadership positions, including president.
