State lawmakers seemed moments away from a final budget Friday, however no progress has been made since then.
“I don’t know if they’re scared of the governor or if they’re just in partnership with the governor, but there’s no reason for us to rush into these agreements unless we had an opportunity to override. They’ve taken that off the table right now,” Pro Tem Greg Treat said.
House Speaker Charles McCall disagrees.
“The best policy is to work with each other to get a budget that everybody will agree to, and then vetoes. That concept doesn’t even have to be contemplated,” McCall said.
The senate has proposed a concurrent special session, similar to last year, to finalize the budget after the end of the month. But at this point the House doesn’t seem very enticed by the idea.
