The Cherokee Nation says it's reached a tentative agreement with the state to renew the existing compacts on tobacco sales.

Governor Kevin Stitt signed the agreement on Monday, but the Cherokee Nation Council still needs to vote on it before it's official.

The compacts set how taxes from tobacco sales on Tribal land are split between the tribe and state.

If it passes the tribal council, the compact will run for ten years.

The Chickasaw Nation agreed to a tobacco compact in January.
