One of the original alleged victims who spoke out said she went to the sheriff’s office in 2015 claiming the girls basketball coach abused her when she was 13 years old at Friend Public Schools. The now 28-year-old claims she was groomed and sexually abused for years.

She reported it to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office, but no charges were brought, and the file went missing.

Federal Title 9 rule requires school administration to follow up, something they did not do, and shortly thereafter, Akins moved to the Ninnekah school district.

Akins was not arrested until another former player stepped forward in June of 2021, this one from Ninnekah.

He was arrested for rape by instrumentation and sexual battery complaints.

So far, 14 alleged victims, former and current students of Ninnekah High School, have come forward with their own stories.

One of the alleged victims claimed Akins made a hyper-sexualized environment and made inappropriate behavior seem normal.

Another claimed he told her he loved her and kissed her forehead.
