Federal agents opened an investigation on a gun shop owner after hundreds of guns were found in a Midwest City dumpster last month. Investigators are looking into claims that some of the guns were given away.
The firearms were first discovered on January 19th by a Midwest City sanitation worker. Midwest City police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to investigate the dumpster.
A 28-page federal search warrant included a picture of the dumpster filled to the brim with more than 200 firearms. Agents learned Raymond Anthony Mussatto owned three gun shops in a Midwest City strip mall where the dumpster was located.
According to the warrant, the guns were cut but a test proved some of the firearms were still functional. Two men working on loading docks near the dumpster told investigators they have seen the bin full of guns several times before.
One of the witnesses said he noticed a teenage employee of the gun shop cut the firearms with a saw. The man admitted to asking the teen for a gun to hang on his wall. The employee allegedly gave the witness two uncut firearms and magazines.
Mussatto did contact the Oklahoma City ATF office last year to ask how to properly dispose of imported firearms. The ATF alleged the business owner then falsely reported the guns were destroyed.
Federal agents obtained search warrants for Mussatto’s gun businesses and his home.
This is an on-going investigation.
