Several community partners hosted a free health fair in Tulsa on Sunday.

Free health screenings were available as well as the COVID-19 booster and flu vaccine, free of charge.

Nadeem Murad bought his family to the health fair, and he says it was a very easy and quick experience.

"Today, we came here for a booster and to get a flu shot," Murad said

The Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North American (APPNA) have been hosting this event for seven years.

The partners for this event say it's aimed at making access to medical treatment easier for people around Tulsa.

Dr. Kamran Muhammad, Interventional Cardiologist for the Oklahoma Heart Institute, was one of the many physicians at the health fair and he says the goal is to help people understand the importance of their health.

"The partners are APPDNA, which is an American Pakistan physician organization and the Islamic Society of Tulsa, Peace Academy and this year, the Tulsa Health Department is also here," Muhammad said.

Muhammad said he wants to introduce people to the importance of health care and try to put them on a journey to be healthy in their everyday lives.

"We’re here just to basically promote healthcare awareness and talk about the importance of healthcare and do basic screening like cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes screening as well as some vision screening and dental screening," Muhammad said.

Muhammad says this health fair is free to the public every year and is great for people who may not have access to healthcare on a routine basis and who might be uninsured or under-insured.

Organizers said this health fair was created to improve the effort of public health awareness across Green Country as we head into the Fall and Winter seasons.
