UPDATE: All lanes of Interstate 40 are now reopened after a semi truck crashed earlier this afternoon.

First responders are on the scene of a semi explosion in Canadian County.

The explosion happened along Interstate 40 eastbound near Elm Street.

Authorities said the semi was jackknifed on the interstate first before it exploded.

It is not yet known what the semi is carrying.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the eastbound side of I-40 has been reopened. I-40 westbound is expected to remain closed into afternoon rush hour traffic.

ODOT suggests using an alternate route such as I-40B via U.S. Highway 81 through El Reno.

This is a developing story.
