Bishop Kelley Students Collect Items For Trav's Coats For Kids

Bishop Kelley high schoolers collected nearly 700 coats for people in need.

“I personally brought in two coats, but even just two coats can make a big difference to someone else’s life," said Bobby Do.

Each year Bishop Kelley students collect hundreds of coats and load them up in big carts and send them off to Yale Cleaners.

“We’re really good at cleaning clothes. So this is a great way for us to give back to the community that gives us so very much," said John Rothrock.

Rothrock with Yale Cleaners said after a thorough cleaning, the coats head to the Caring Center in South Tulsa and First Baptist Church where families can take them home.

“When I get to work the coat room and see the kids smile when they get that coat that fits them just perfect. It’s an OU or OSU. It really makes my day to see that kids get the coat of their dreams," said Rothrock.

Even though the students don't meet the person on the other end of the donated pile of coats, they understand it's helping someone stay warm. “Not everyone has four or five big winter coats that they can just pick out every day. So I think that even just giving one coat like just knowing that it’s going to help that one person a lot," said Madeline Barton.

Yale Cleaners has already cleaned and delivered 4,500 coats this year. There is still time for you to drop off any gently used or new coats at any of the locations from now until the end of the year.
