Haylie Gonzalez’s mother is heartbroken. The ME confirmed Tuesday a body found last week near a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex is Haylie.
Investigators said Eduardo Bonilla-Lopez murdered the 17-year-old, and two of his family members are accused of trying to help him cover it up.
“Never did I ever think that I would ever have to go through something like this,” said Yvonne Turner, Haylie’s mother.
Oklahoma City police declared her daughter missing on July 8. Investigators suspected foul play in her disappearance.
“What did she do to you for you to do that to her? She didn’t deserve that,” her mother said.
On August 16, investigators recovered human remains near Northwest 16th and Rockwell. The medical examiner confirmed Turner’s worst nightmare, the search for Haylie Gonzalez was over.
“I cried the day the investigator came and got her dental records…that’s how they figured out it was her,” said Turner.
“I prayed. This is closure for all of us, her family too,” said Adriana Mendoza, a family friend.
Police conducted 20 independent searches.
“We’ve utilized members of our boats, our lake patrol, air one, K-9 units, several volunteers,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Now Haylie's loved ones are left heartbroken with only memories of the 17-year-old.
“She gave me a hug and a kiss. She told me she loved me, I told her ‘I love you too Mami, I love you too.’ and now I have to bury her, and I don’t understand why,” said her mother.
“That was her, just make your day, try and make you laugh. There was always a smile on her face,” said Mendoza.
Her mother said once they are able, Haylie will be laid to rest where she grew up in Texas.
Police told News 9 this is still an open investigation and anyone with information should reach out to them.
