A well-known restaurant that's been serving Tulsans for nearly 60 years is closing.

Celebrity Restaurant at 31st and Yale is a staple of Tulsa dining. It’s known for its lush red décor, steaks, fried chicken and Caesar salad.

It's a place of tradition for many, where folks reunite to celebrate holidays, birthdays and special occasions. But like many businesses, the pandemic has hit Celebrity hard.

The restaurant has tried to work through it, but a post on Facebook said, "The heart was there, but the damage had been done. The industry didn't just change, the people who had given many years of their lives to it were changed as well."

Celebrity Restaurant said it's not able to staff the restaurant right now, so the only option is to close for the summer season.

It will close after this weekend, but said it plans to still host some private events.

The hope is the restaurant industry workforce will grow and Celebrity can reopen in the fall for the holiday season.

“This isn’t goodbye, but it is a small break, as we continue to heal and regroup from what COVID did do,” the Facebook post said.

Celebrity is owned by Three Sirens Restaurant Group, which also runs Bird & Bottle and the Brambles restaurants. All of those restaurants will remain open.
