Now 30-year-old Vicente Alexander sits behind bars, facing several charges.

In rush hour traffic, Alexander led officers and troopers on a pursuit from Spencer to southeast Oklahoma City.

“It was an extremely tense situation there for several minutes especially when you're dealing with rush hour traffic on I-35. All the law enforcement did their job very efficiently in a very dangerous situation,” Oklahoma Highway Patrol Captain John Paul said.

Paul said the pursuit only lasted a couple of minutes, yet the damage caused was extensive.

“He rammed several law enforcement vehicles. He was able to work his way out of the boxed in situation. Took off, ran through a red light, and hit an innocent civilian colliding with a pickup causing injury,” Paul said.

Luckily everyone involved walked away with minor injuries. After the crash, Alexander tried to take off on foot, but Oklahoma City police were able stop him.

He was taken to the hospital to get checked out then booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on seven complaints.

“A felony of eluding, assault and battery on a police officer, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, leaving the scene of an injury collision, resisting arrest, reckless driving and running a red light,” Paul said.

Police also found a loaded pistol in his car.

“We don't have any charges on him prior to this that we've been able to locate. That doesn't mean that there won't be some possibly out of state or other jurisdictions,” Paul said.

OHP said the investigation is ongoing and they are looking into if drugs, alcohol, or mental illness may have played a role in the chase.
