Texas Family Mourns Man Hit, Killed Walking Home From Work In Owasso

A Houston family is grieving the loss of their loved one who was hit and killed last week while walking home from work in Owasso.

Carlos Guzman's family said he worked at NSP Quality Meats in Owasso, about three miles away from where police said he was hit and killed on 76th Street North near 71st East Avenue. 

His sister Dina Guajardo believes Carlos was getting off third shift, walking home from work before sunrise Wednesday morning. 

"I think he was trying to make the best of his life,” Guajardo said.  

She said she has not seen her brother in about two years, and now, she is planning his funeral.  

"If I could, I would give him the best hug in the world. You just don't know when you're going to lose a loved one,” Guajardo said.  

The 33-year-old was raised in Houston. Guajardo said he has several family members in Texas, and it is where they plan to lay him to rest. He also has family in Maryland and El Salvador, according the family’s GoFundMe page.   

"That's the hardest thing right now is getting him over from Oklahoma to Texas,” Guajardo said.  

Owasso Police said a driver who hit Guzman last week stayed on the scene and called 911, but based on Guzman's injuries, officers think he could have been hit by multiple vehicles. Police said no other drivers have come forward, but their investigation continues.  

Dina said her mother is worried about the expenses that come with bringing Carlos' body back home.  

"I said, 'Don't worry about it. God's going to provide,’” Guajardo said.  

Carlos leaves behind his daughter Allison who is 13 years old.  

The family set up a fundraising account to help with funeral expenses, and the cost of bringing his body back to Texas.
