Two suspects are dead after what began as a pursuit by Muskogee police.

Authorities said they responded to an attempted carjacking call around 3 p.m. Sunday on the 2200 block of North 24th Street West. The carjacking was unsuccessful.

After the initial carjacking call, a truck was reported stolen in the same area as the original carjacking. Muskogee officers spotted the truck and pursued the vehicle.

Officers pursued the vehicle and suspects inside near the intersection of North 24th Street West and U.S. Highway 62. The vehicle wrecked and the suspects fled on foot on the 700 block of North 18th Street.

Police and suspects exchanged gunfire during the pursuit. One of the suspects was shot and killed while the second suspect escaped into a wooded area.

According to Muskogee police, as officers approached the second suspect, the department said the unidentified suspect shot and killed himself.

The suspects have not been identified as Muskogee police continues its investigation.
