A man's car was swept towards a guardrail near Ski Island during storms Monday. Two days later, rescue crews are still searching for the man.

"Right now, we are doing grid searches. We are eliminating areas where possibly he could be. Closest to the incident, and we are going to work our way out," said Greg Merrell with the Oklahoma City Fire Department.

Before midnight Monday, a man was driving to a home in the Ski Island neighborhood to visit family.

As he crossed a spillway bridge, firefighters said floodwater submerged his car and pushed it up against the guard rail.

Homeowners in the area called 911 when they saw the scene.

Callers said, "There is a car at Ski Island where the road spillway is, and it is underwater, and it is against the fence."

Another called in saying, "He has been there about 10 minutes, and he cannot get out of his car."

Both callers told emergency dispatchers they could see that the car lights were still on.

Some neighbors said at one point they could see the man on top of his car. But that he later disappeared.

Crews said  they will not give up until the man is found.

"We are still actively searching. We are just treating it like we do have a viable victim. That is why we have positive thoughts," said Merrell.

Rescuers have now passed 36 hours in this search. Wednesday the police helicopter circled overhead, looking downstream for any signs of the man.

"We are going to search everywhere we can to accomplish the mission," said Merrell.
