OSBI: Suspicious Death Turns Into Homicide Investigation In Cushing

Monday, February 17th 2020, 2:32 pm

A suspicious death was reported Monday in Cushing, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported.

Police were called about 6:30 a.m. when a passerby reported a travel trailer on fire in the 100 block of N Wade.

When emergency crews arrived, they found 40-year-old Patrick McGuire dead inside. He was last seen about 5 a.m. Monday.

Investigators are now investigating the death as a homicide.

Surveillance video shows multiple people around 6 a.m. walking around McGuire’s RV. Moments later a fire is set and flames quickly spread throughout the entire RV.

“I could not tell form that video exactly how many people were on there. The video was not clear enough to even tell if our victim was one of those people or not,” said OSBI Special Agent Marty Wilson/

A man driving nearby noticed the flames and pulled McGuire’s body out of the burning RV.

The Cushing Police and Fire Departments are working with OSBI during the investigation.

“We don’t have a good description of any possible suspects. We do know some people who he was associated with who had spent time over here. As far as narrowing down who we’re looking for, I can’t say right now,” said Wilson.

McGuire’s death comes as a total shock to family and friends who are confused about what happened to him. He worked as an electrician and leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter.

“All I know is I lost a really good friend and I don’t know, I don’t know, it’s just very hard,” McGuire’s close friend Joan Evertts said. “It doesn’t seem real/ I’ve already tried to call him five times and tries to get ahold of him like on my social media. We’d send goofy pictures on social media.”

Anyone with information about the death or who saw anything unusual in the area is asked to call the OSBI at 800-522-8017 or tips@osbi.ok.gov
