BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) _ Whirlpool is eliminating more than 700 jobs at two plants in Tennessee that make dehumidifiers, air purifiers and cooking ranges. The company is also relocating some of its business to Tulsa.
The appliance maker says it plans to phase out the manufacturing of dehumidifiers and air purifiers at its plant in La Vergne, Tennessee, after this year at a cost of about 330 jobs.
And it is relocating the manufacture of its freestanding cooking range units from its Cleveland, Tennessee, plant to other factories in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mexico. About 400 jobs will be eliminated at the Cleveland site by the end of next year.
Whirlpool says it hasn't decided yet how many jobs will be added in Tulsa and Mexico.
