Jyrki Jokipakka netted the game-winning goal and Jack Campbell made 37 saves for the Texas Stars, who defeated the Oklahoma City Barons, 3-2, Friday night in front of 4,561 in attendance at the Cox Convention Center.
On the power play following a hooking penalty to Oklahoma City's Matthew Ford at 14:26, Jokipakka gave the Stars their decisive 3-2 lead when he received a pass from Gemel Smith inside the left circle and fired a wrist shot past Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit.
Texas took a 1-0 lead quickly into the game when Derek Meech took a pass through the Oklahoma City slot from Kevin Henderson and beat Brossoit with the Stars' first shot of the game at 1:45 of the first period.
The Stars extended their lead to 2-0 on their second shot just 27 seconds later when Derek Hulak poked a centering pass from Branden Troock into the Barons net.
Oklahoma City cut the Stars' lead to 2-1 exactly nine minutes into the second period, following an interference call to Troock at the 6:47 mark, when Andrew Miller sent a behind-the-back pass to the point where Jordan Oesterle fired a slap shot past Texas' Campbell.
Former NHL veteran Jason Williams evened the score for Oklahoma City at 10:59 of the second period when he took a pass from Ryan Hamilton on an odd-man rush and fired the puck over the left shoulder of Campbell.
Following Jokipakka's second period tally, the teams played to a scoreless third frame.
The Barons' Brossoit saved 27 of the 30 Stars shots he faced.
Oklahoma City dropped to 0-1-1-0 with the loss, while Texas improved to 2-0-0-0 on the season.
The Barons are back in action Saturday, Oct. 18, when they welcome the San Antonio Rampage to the Cox Convention Center in a 7 p.m. start. Fans in attendance can partake in a postgame autograph session with Barons players and coaches.
