The News 9 Weather Team took center stage at the Severe Weather Awareness Expo at Penn Square Mall Saturday, helping Oklahomans prepare for the upcoming storm season. The event, aimed at educating the public on severe weather safety, featured exhibits, live demonstrations, and one-on-one discussions with meteorologists and storm trackers.
Chief Meteorologist David Payne and the entire News 9 weather team met with families, storm enthusiasts, and concerned citizens, offering expert advice on staying safe during Oklahoma’s unpredictable weather. From tornado preparedness to flash flooding precautions, attendees received valuable information to help them make life-saving decisions when severe weather strikes.
“Our goal is to keep Oklahomans informed and safe,” said Payne. “Events like this allow us to connect directly with the community and make sure everyone knows what to do when severe weather approaches.”
Visitors had the opportunity to meet the entire News 9 weather team, chat with News 9 Storm Trackers and interact with Bob Mills SkyNews 9 pilot, Jim Gardner. More than 400 Oklahomans stood in line to visit the News 9 team Saturday afternoon.
The National Weather Service, local emergency management officials and first responders were also on hand to provide additional resources, ensuring families have a plan in place before severe weather arrives.
With storm season on the horizon, the News 9 Weather Team remains committed to keeping the community informed, prepared, and safe. For more weather updates and safety tips, visit News9.com or download the News 9 weather app.
