Tulsa police are investigating a shooting that sent seven people to the hospital after gunfire broke out at a large party early Saturday morning.
Officers were called just before 1 a.m. to the area near 122nd East Avenue and Admiral Place, where a large crowd of teenagers had gathered inside an abandoned warehouse that was being used as an event space.
According to police, multiple shooters opened fire outside the warehouse, with bullets flying toward the parking lot. Partygoers were caught in the crossfire as they ran for cover.
Authorities confirmed seven people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Five victims were shot or grazed by gunfire. One person was run over while hiding beneath a vehicle, and another suffered a severe arm injury after cutting herself on razor wire while climbing over a chain-link fence to escape.
Police said most of the victims were between 17 and 18 years old, with one victim being 21. Investigators noted that most of the injured refused to answer questions and were unable to provide any information about possible suspects.
An 18-year-old man also reported that his AR-15 rifle was stolen from his vehicle during the party, though police said it is unknown if the weapon was used in the shooting.
Crime scene investigators collected shell casings and other evidence from the area.
Tulsa Police say these types of large, unsupervised parties are becoming increasingly dangerous and often involve weapons and drugs.
“From police department to parents — we know you’re doing a good job, but please keep your kids at home, away from these parties. We just want your kids to be safe,” said Sgt. JB Shelton with Tulsa Police.
