Drivers across Oklahoma are dealing with hazardous road conditions on Tuesday.

As many take extra precautions before they hit the road, News 9 is asking Oklahoma Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Tara Henson about the agency's response to road impacts.

When it comes to roadways, Henson said it can be dangerous to be out on the road on days such as this.

"I would describe them as most people are describing them: If you do not have to get out, do not get out, the weather is absolutely brutal," Henson said.

Henson said there has been some difficulty for ODOT crews across the state, with the cold and ice adding to the already large workload.

"Our crews are out there 24/7 during weather events, and even though some of this precipitation may stop periodically, we'll keep working," Henson said. "You guys know that it's going to stay slick for a while, especially over bridges and overpasses. So again, it's very challenging out there."

Henson also said there are some things drivers can pack if they head out on the road, including tape, a blanket, your cell phone, extra batteries, necessary medications, and high-energy snacks and water.

"If you do need to go out, call your destination, make sure they're open, make sure someone knows you're on your way," Henson said.
