Severe Storms Leave Visible Damage In Jackson County

No one was hurt in the town of Duke, but one resident said after she came out of her storm shelter, she found nearly nothing left of her home.

A cluster of showers and storms moved through the metro from the south Thursday. These storms brought hail, high winds, and tornadoes.

In Jackson County, residents are waking up to find their homes and businesses damaged. A multi-vertex tornado was confirmed on the ground near the town of Duke around 7 p.m. Thursday, News 9 was live with coverage of the tornado hitting a home.

No one was hurt in the town of Duke, but one resident said when she heard tornado sirens, she ran to safety.

Tammy Deyo and her husband live south of Duke, and said once it was safe enough to leave their shelter, they found nearly nothing left of their home.

"We went into our shelter and came out and lost everything," Deyo said. "All of our home, our garage, our travel trailer, everything is leveled, just completely leveled."

Although the couple were able to escape unscathed, their home wasn't as lucky, and now the pair must find other accommodations.

"We are on our way to a hotel right now, but it was a nightmare," Deyo said. "We got hit really hard."

Around the area, there are also reports of downed power lines, and several mobile homes have been destroyed.

Jackson County Emergency Management confirmed that they had a total of 9 homes affected by the tornados Thursday night, as of Friday at 4:00 p.m.

9 homes total were affected. 3 homes were destroyed, 3 homes suffered heavy damage and 3 homes suffered minor to moderate damage. All the homes are west of Altus and South of Duke. 

There have been no injuries or fatalities reported according to Jackson County Emergency Management.
