A Tulsa-based production crew was on the UNLV campus when the shooting happened Wednesday.

The President of the Cowboy Channel tells News on 6’s Tatum Guinn they weren’t far from where it all happened.

Jeff Medders and his crew were inside the Mack Center setting up for the National Finals Rodeo when they got word of a mass shooter on the UNLV campus.

Medders says they were far enough away that they didn’t hear gunshots... but it was hard to miss all of the sirens.

At one point, more than 100 people inside the Mack Center were told to get on the floor while police worked to clear the area.

They were able to leave around two hours later.

It didn’t take long for people back here at home to start checking on them.

“When something like this happens, you think you’re far removed from it when you’re sitting in Tulsa, OK and it happens in Las Vegas," Medders said. "There’s probably 20 people on the crew out here working with us that live in Tulsa. All of them, almost instantly, were hearing from family and friends wanting to make sure everybody was safe. It’s nice to have that, it feels good that you feel it from Tulsa which is two time zones away.”

As of Wednesday night... they plan on getting back into the Mack Center to finish set up tomorrow morning.

They are moving ahead with the rodeo and their broadcast.

Medders says they are planning to pay tribute to the victims and thank police for their work during their broadcast.
