Changing Lives One Smile At A Time

There’s something about giving a smile or receiving a smile that can make your day, but for some, smiling is just not something they are comfortable with.

“It doesn’t just restore the way someone looks but it also significantly impacts the way the just function in daily life,” said Dr. Robert Bryan, an oral surgeon with Oral Surgery Specialist of Oklahoma.

The doctors at Oral Surgery Specialist of Oklahoma, change lives for Oklahomans every day.

“Removal of wisdom teeth, placement of dental implants, corrective jaw surgery, and periodontal surgeries, so that involves surgery of the gums and the supporting structure such as bone,” said Dr. Bryan.

Through all the years of surgeries the doctors realized the impact of a smile.

“It really has a fairly negative impact on their ability to get a job, have social interactions, even things that we don’t think about like going to dinner with their friends and their family,” said Dr. Bryan.

Five years ago, they came up with a program to help they call it the second chance program.

“The procedure that we are offering in our second chance program is actually one wherein we place four to six dental implants in either the upper jaw or the lower jaw or both,” said Dr. Bryan.

Up to fifty thousand dollars of work all done for free, but it’s not a contest. Applicants simply submit their story along with pictures and the doctors choose a recipient.

“From those thousands and thousands of applications we collect some clinical exams, take some x-rays and try and find that person that has exactly what we’re wanting to help them with,” said Dr. Bryan.

After five years of doing the program, the gratification is with both the patients and the doctors.

“That’s really been a blessing too. To just meet people and hear their stories and do something to be a small part of making their life better,” said Dr. Bryan.
