Oklahoma County Sheriff Warns About New A.I. Scam Calls

A.I. technology is helping scammers target elderly people by mimicking the sound of a loved one.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff cautioned residents to be vigilant about artificial intelligence aiding in the grandfather scam, a common phone call scam that targets elderly people by claiming their grandchild is in trouble and needs money. Deputies said the new technology is now able to synthetically recreate the voice of people's grandchildren, leading to further scam victims.

Deputies said the best way to protect against these scams is by agreeing on a code word with your family.
