Catholic Charities Breaks Ground On New Sanctuary Women’s Development Center

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City held a ceremony Tuesday morning for the new Sanctuary Women's Development Center.

The new facility will be around 9,000 square feet with multiple showers and laundry machines to support clients. 

"With the help of the good spirit, the catholic charities I have been equipped with everything that I need to survive and never be harmed again," Romaine Fantroy said.

Fantroy has received a helping hand from Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Oklahoma City for the past five years. 

Because of them she said her life has been changed,

"I am in a big beautiful one-bedroom house with 15 windows that I don't know what to do with. As I stated, I have all the tools I need to survive: my income, my car, so I am good, said Fantroy.

Theresa Flannery is one of the senior directors and she said the first step is to give women the tools they need to move forward. In an environment that is comfortable and safe.

"If you are living on the streets and you don't have a safe place to take a shower and do your laundry, so how difficult it is to move forward and find a job? They can start identifying what those barriers are that keep them from moving toward self-sufficiency and permanent housing," Flannery said.
