Oklahoma City Police recently released video of a shooting that happened earlier this month at a southeast Oklahoma City motel. Thanks to tips from the public, investigators are closer to catching the suspect.

Police noted in court documents that the shooting left the 40-year-old victim paralyzed from the waist down.

Oklahoma City Police released video of the shooting at the Best Way Inn near Southeast 29th and the I-35 Service Road last week.

Police said the man wearing a black jacket and green shirt was identified as the accused shooter.

“The victim said he was in the motel room when the suspect came to the door and tried to push his way in,” Capt. Valerie Littlejohn with the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

The victim tried to fight the suspect off, however the video clearly showed the suspect shooting inside the motel room at the victim.

“The suspect fled the scene,” Littlejohn said. “The victim was not sure who the suspect was.”

The witnesses at the scene could not help identify the suspect either.

Once police posted the video of the shooting on social media, they said tips came in from the public identifying the suspect by his street names.

Investigators went to OU Medical Center several days after the shooting to interview the victim but said he was not coherent enough to speak. That was when hospital staff informed investigators the man was paralyzed.

Court documents stated the suspect faces charges of maiming and assault and battery with a deadly weapon once he is taken into custody.

Police ask citizens to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 405-235-7300 if they can offer new information related to the shooting.
