OSBI Investigating After 15-Year-Old Shoots Father Inside Lincoln County Home

A Lincoln County man died after his 15-year-old son shot him inside their home early Tuesday afternoon. 

“At 1:14, dispatch got a call of a shooting,” said Sheriff Charlie Dougherty, with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. 

The home of the crime scene is a rural place where only occasional traffic makes a sound. Crime is not as common in this community. However, lately, Dougherty said his phone keeps ringing.  

“This is our third shooting since yesterday,” Dougherty said. 

He says this crime scene is tough because of the people involved and the result. 

“It’s not the worst one I’ve seen, but it’s a scene,” Dougherty said. “The dad was transported from local ambulance to Stroud Hospital where he was pronounced dead.” 

Dougherty said and an argument broke out between this man and his son. 

“Had a 15-year-old male caller on the phone said that his dad had a knife and had him cornered and he had to shoot him,” Dougherty said. 

That is why the sheriff’s office has the boy with them but hasn’t said if he’ll face any charges.  

“That’s way too early to tell,” Dougherty said. 

Right now, investigators are working to determine what happened inside this home.  

“There’ll be more to come,” Dougherty said. 

Dougherty said this is the first time the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has been to this house. There is no history of domestic issues in this family. Right now, they say OSBI will lead this investigation.
