The city of Bethany has been under a boil water notice since Saturday due to what the city says is an isolated contamination.

This all because of isolated samples of E. coli, and even though it’s isolated, an entire city-wide boil water notice is currently in effect.

Many restaurants have had to temporarily close their doors.

Because of the notice, people living in Bethany should bring water to a full, rolling boil for one minute before doing many things including drinking, making food, preparing baby formula and even washing dishes.

Some of the residents we talked to are taking the notice very seriously.

“I have a pet, so of course I can’t just give her tap water. I have to go get bottled water, which gets expensive because it adds up with the heat,” said Bethany resident Karen Majors.

After being set in place over the weekend, the boil water notice is currently planned to last for 10 days.

The city was offering free cases of water, but that stock has already run out.

It's important to note this is a localized problem and the contamination has not hit the city's water plant.
