Witnesses to a shooting ran to the aid of a man shot in the head.

News 9’s Jim Gardner in Bob Mills SkyNews 9 was over the scene outside a liquor store Wednesday near May Ave. and Memorial Rd.

The shooting happened outside a busy strip mall. Those who witnessed or heard the shooting did everything they could to help the victim and police.

“We had two different people call in at some point they were following the suspect vehicle, they seen it, and for safety reasons they decided to not continue that,” said Oklahoma City Police Lt. Isaac Goodman.

According to witnesses the man seen being treated by emergency responders was shot in the head.

“He was talking to officers at the scene, but he has substantial injuries,” said Goodman.

Employees said the victim owns "The Well" liquor store. They said he was in the parking lot when he was ambushed by a man with a gun.

“Witnesses passing by on Memorial Road described a tan sedan with a black male subject, believed to be our shooter, traveling east bound and got on the Kilpatrick Turnpike,” said Goodman.

Police are now hoping the combination of eyewitnesses and surveillance video will lead them to the gunman.

“The types of businesses there are here, there's numerous businesses with surveillance cameras on them so we are confident we're going to be able to get good suspect information from them,” said Goodman.

Witnesses described the business owner as a humble, salt of the earth kind of man, and said they were grateful for the bystanders that ran to him and applied pressure to his wound while waiting for emergency responders.
