It’s officially spring and to celebrate, flowers are blooming at the Tulsa Botanic Garden.

The Botanic Blooms festival started on Thursday and will be going on until Easter. The garden is ringing in the spring season with more than 200,000 flowers planted. The daffodils are some of the first to bloom and the tulips are starting to blossom.

Tulsa Botanic Garden CEO Chuck Lamson says with Monday's rain and this week's sunshine, colorful flowers will pop up soon. He says the garden is full of all sorts of spring perennials from daffodils to crocuses. Lamson says the tulips are planted as early, medium, and late bloomers, so people can enjoy them throughout the festival.

He says prime time will most likely be from this weekend to mid-April. Each Thursday evening leading up to Easter, there will be live music with food and drinks from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lamson says it's a chance to celebrate the change of seasons and flowers blooming in the garden again.

"My former industry is baseball; everybody looks forward to spring training. This is a great time for people to think about here comes the nicer weather, the longer days and all that. This is a great place to see what you can grow in Oklahoma, which is quite amazing compared to what you might see just in general nurseries,” Lamson said.

Special events are happening throughout the month.

The garden is open every day except Mondays.
