A man on-the-run, accused of exchanging gunfire with an officer Monday in northwest Oklahoma City, has been captured by authorities.

Aaron Sayre, 29, was arrested by U.S. Marshals and OKCPD's Violent Crimes Apprehension Team, the department said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

Police said Sayre ran away from police in a stolen car shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

The chase ended near NW 143rd Street and Walker Avenue.

Sgt. Aaron Richards, a six-year veteran of the department, chased the vehicle until it crashed.

Sayre reportedly got out of the car and tried to shoot at Richards and Richards returned fire, police said.

It appears neither Sayre nor Richards were hit by the gunfire, police said.

Richards has been placed on routine administrative leave.
