Oklahoma City police followed clues on Tuesday after a man was found clinging to life at an apartment complex near West Hefner Road and Western Avenue.

The victim was shot multiple times and is in critical condition, according to police officials.

The shooting victim was found at the back of The Cottages apartments. Investigators also focused their attention on a neighborhood immediately north of the complex.

“I didn’t expect to wake up and find cops in the neighborhood,” said Leslie Valenzuela, a neighbor.

Investigators were on Valenzuela's street following leads to a shooting not far from her home.

“A lot of crazy stuff happening this morning,” said Valenzuela. “All I know is I heard gunshots this morning, but they sounded kind of far away.”

The gunshots likely came from the apartment complex that backs up to Valenzuela's neighborhood. Police said a check the welfare call was made to police around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A resident found a man on the ground at apartments.

“When officers arrived, they found one man who had been shot multiple times,” said Master Sgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “He was transported to an area hospital in very critical condition.”

Police have not identified a suspect, but detectives spoke to possible witnesses at the apartments. They also went to several nearby homes for security video that could help solve the crime.

“Investigators and CSI are on the scene trying to piece together exactly what happened,” said Knight. “Figure out what happened.”

Unfortunately, Valenzuela said this was not the first time she has seen police on her street.

“Awhile back, it was around two something in the morning I heard gunshot,” said Valenzuela. “Me and my husband came out here and we did see cops and they were at my neighbor’s front door because she does have a camera.”
