Police confirmed a 5-year-old died after being shot Thursday inside a home in northeast Oklahoma City.

OCPD initially reported the child as 3 years old.

Officers responded to a shooting call shortly after 3 p.m. located on Northeast 29th Street, off of Martin Luther King Avenue.

Oklahoma City police Captain Rod Strecker said the shooting appears accidental in nature.

Several children were inside of the home at the time of the shooting, he said, making it more difficult to piece together witness statements.

“We’re dealing with some children on this deal, some young folks. Some people that were or were not in the house,” Strecker said. “We’re trying to determine exactly what happened inside.”

When asked if police knew who owned the gun used in the shooting, Strecker said, “We’re getting some stories as far as that goes.”

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services will likely become involved in the investigation at some point, Strecker said. Police transported multiple people to safe locations after the incident.

Police made no arrests immediately after the incident.
