The City of Shawnee said Saturday that it is under a mandatory boil water order.
Residents are required to boil water at a "hard, roiling boil for at least one minute before consuming, drinking, use in food preparation (including baby formula, brushing teeth, making ice, wound care and bathing infants" who may drink the water.
If residents are unable to drink the city's water, the city said to use another source of drinkable water, such as bottled water, until the water is safe to consume again.
This week's frigid weather caused the city to use "more than a month's supply" worth of chemicals used as a part of the city's water treatment process. Because those chemicals are in low supply, the city said it is working to replenish its stock.
