Edmond Family Gets Creative For Son’s 8th Birthday, Builds Hockey Rink In Their Front Yard

Hockey runs in the Standish family’s blood for years.

Jenifer and Marty Standish got married and settled down in Edmond.

“I played for the Blazers for 10 years,” said Marty Standish.

They have an 8-year-old son Brigs who just had his birthday on Saturday in the middle of the arctic blast.

Brigs has kept the family tradition alive and is playing on a travel hockey team.

“My number is number eight, my dad’s number was number eight, and I turned 8,” said Brigs.

For Brigs’ 8th birthday, the Standishs scored big with one of Brigs’s gifts, with the help of Mother Nature. When out to dinner one night, Jenifer and Marty Standish mentioned building an ice skating rink and Brigs’s eyes lit up at the idea.

“We were just talking and said let’s build a skating rink,” said Marty Standish.

So, that’s what Marty Standish did with the help of his former teammate.

“He was really excited really excited because I told him how when I was a kid we used to go to school and play outside with all of our friends that lived in our area,” said Marty Standish.

As soon as the ice was ready Brigs, his teammates and their families geared up for some good, old-fashioned fun.
