OCC Announces Schedule For New Area Code, 10 Digit Dialing For 405 Area Code

Ten digit dialing will begin for the 405 area code within 12 months, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission said Tuesday.

Starting Saturday, Oct. 24, local calls within the 405 area code can be made by either dialing the local seven digit local number or by dialing the area code plus the local number. After the next six months, all local calls within the 405 will require the 10 digit dialing number on April 24, 2021.

The move is necessary to enable the additional area code for the area. The 572 area code will be added to area on May 24, 2021.

The addition of the 572 area code will not change existing 405 telephone numbers.
