Oklahoma City police are investigating a birthday party from Friday night that turned into the crime scene of the city’s 37th homicide. Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Tybreko Davis.
Police said Davis was involved in a fight that spilled into the parking lot of the Raindance Apartments near Northwest 122nd and Pennsylvania Avenue when gunfire broke out.
A resident recalled hearing six gunshots come from Davis' birthday party.
“He had a lot of friends here they were all crying, running up and down,” said Tiffany Middleton, resident. “I think his brother was here which makes it even worse to be there when your sibling or family member dies.”
When officers got to the apartments, they found Davis already dead in the courtyard. Police did not arrest anyone at the scene.
“Then another fight happened between I guess someone who knew who shot the person and his friends,” said Middleton. “So, they were trying to stop the fighting.”
Davis' family started a GoFundMe page to raise money for an unexpected funeral. His friends posted on social media that Davis was the youngest of five boys.
They said he was a kind and happy young man, looking forward to a bright future.
“You think he’s just out with friends,” said Middleton. “And then he doesn’t come home. I just couldn’t imagine that.”
Residents said the shooting was not the first time a young person has been gunned down at the complex. In early June a 15-year-old died from gunshot injuries. His body was found in a ditch at the front of complex.
‘This is the second shooting close to home within like two months,” said Middleton. “This is normally a really quiet apartment.”
