An accident on the metro’s southwest side leaves four people in critical condition.
The accident happened before 3 a.m. Friday at a pay toll on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike, just south of the H.E. Bailey Spur. An ambulance crashed into a toll booth injuring both EMTs, a patient inside and one person inside the booth.
Two people were transported by air while the others were sent on the ground to a local hospital.
The driver of the ambulance, Dora Handcock, was admitted in good condition at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Ambulance passenger Justin Guffey and toll booth attendant Shannon Garst were both treated and released from the hospital.
Dominga Gloria, another ambulance passenger, remains in serious condition with trunk internal injuries.
The cause of the accident is undetermined.
Officials said the ambulance was traveling from Jackson County and heading to Oklahoma City.
The toll booth itself was knocked off its foundation. Turnpike authorities on the scene said the toll plaza could reopen Saturday.
This is a developing story.
