Governor Kevin Stitt announced his plans to slowly reopen Oklahoma and the extension of the state’s safer-at home order through May 6 for the vulnerable.

Elective surgeries will resume April 24.

Meanwhile non-essential businesses will remain closed until at least April 30.

“While we need to keep up our guard we are looking and we are working on a plan to safely open up the state,” said Governor Kevin Stitt.

But the specifics on how that would look -- remains in the works.

“Do we test the workers at a restaurant, do they mask up, do we spread the tables six feet apart. All those things we're working on to slowly step back in to more of a normal business life,” said Stitt.

The ball is finally now rolling after a steady decline in hospitalizations.

“That number has stayed flat for the last 17 days, our hospitalizations peaked on March 30 and have continued to decline,” said Stitt.

And while the curve is flattening the governor emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant.

“Now is not the time to take our foot off the gas,” said Stitt.

He said it is imperative for Oklahomans to continue social distancing, wearing their masks, and washing their hands.

“There will still be difficult times ahead, we know there will be more positive cases, more hospitalizations, and unfortunately more deaths,” said Stitt.
