MIAMI (AP) _ Former Oklahoma State running back Thurman Thomas is elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Thomas, who spent most of his N-F-L career with the Buffalo Bills, was a teammate of Heisman Trophy winner Barry Sanders at O-S-U.

Thomas had 897 rushes for 45-hundred-95 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 21 100-yard rushing games for the Cowboys.

He was also a Heisman Trophy candidate in his senior year of 1987, when he earned first-team All-America honors. He was a third-team All-America pick in 1985.

Five other players were also elected Saturday. They are former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin, offensive lineman Bruce Matthews, defensive back Roger Wehrli and two nominees of the veterans' committee -- tight end Charlie Sanders and guard Gene Hickerson.
