MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – A mother was shot and killed by her boyfriend in Midwest City earlier this month. Now her three daughters are speaking out about the murder suicide.
Alicia Merrick, Tiffany Rankin, and Chelsea Merrick sat down and talked with News 9 in Yukon, where they all used to live.
Their mother Becky Rankin Merrick had recently moved to Midwest City with her boyfriend Charles Murrah. The two had dated for more than two years, but the girls said they had a rocky relationship, and Becky had asked Charles to move out.
It wasn't the first time, but it would be the last.
The girls said Charles shot their mother two times, and then turned the gun on himself. Their mother later died at the hospital.
Becky's youngest daughter Alicia was inside the house when this all happened. She managed to make it out alive and call for help.
These three sisters have already been through so much. But they are hoping by speaking out about the murder of their mother, they can help prevent something like it from happening to anyone else.
"What we have gone through is not fair," said Tiffany Rankin, Becky's oldest daughter. "For anybody else out there that finds their selves in this situation, do not put up with it. If there's a chance it could ever end this way, you do not want to put your families through this."
A memorial fund has been established to help the girls with funeral costs. You can help by making a donation to the Becky Rankin - Merrick Family trust fund at any Midfirst Bank.
