Police Name Suspect, Victim In Midwest City Shooting

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Midwest City police have released the names of the suspect and the victim involved in an attempted murder and suicide Saturday morning.

Police say the victim is Rebecca Rankin Merrick. News 9 is told she is still alive at a local hospital at this point.

The man police say shot her several times before turning the gun on himself is identified as Charles Wayne Murrah. Investigators say the two were in a relationship.

It all happened Saturday around 9:30 a.m. in this quiet neighborhood. Neighbors awoke to the sound of multiple shots ringing through the air.

Police say Murrah also threatened the victim's 18-year-old daughter who ran out of the home and called 9-1-1.

Shortly after, officers arrived to the crime scene with two victims - one dead, and the other in grave condition.

Sunday night, investigators are still working this case and trying to figure out the motive. They tell us the couple had just moved to the neighborhood.
