The boy was hit on a residential road on his way home from school Tuesday. After the hit and run, the boy's brother ran into his house to tell adults what happened. That's when family members say they saw little Cody Crow rolling around in pain with blood coming out of his mouth.
"He was holding his sides," Cody's uncle Clayton Cope said.
Cope saw his nephew in pain when he walked outside moments after he says a neighbor ran over Cody.
"There was an older gentleman standing over him," Cope said. "My little nephew was lying on the ground hollering … [the driver] looked like he was drunk."
Witnesses say Cody had just walked off the school bus when he was hit. His brother was right next to him.
"I saw my little brother on the ground crying real bad," victim's brother Zach McCaulla said.
Once the driver realized he had hit the boy, McCaulla says the driver tried to downplay what just happened. Family members say the driver drove off, but Cody's dad was not far behind. He caught up with the suspect in time for troopers take him to jail.
Cody was taken to OU Medical Center's Presbyterian Hospital via ambulance.
The whole ordeal has children in the neighborhood reflecting on just how dangerous the street can be.
"[Drivers] just drive by as fast as they can," 12-year-old Colton Ledford said. "They don't really care."
News 9 learned late Tuesday that Cody had been released from the hospital. He is expected to be OK.
