Five errors that led to 10 unearned runs came back to cost the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels in a doubleheader sweep against the No. 20-ranked St. Gregory's University Cavaliers Thursday afternoon (Mar. 28) at Jack Allen Field. The Cavaliers won the opener 9-2 and then the second game 7-0.

The Lady Evangels committed an error to the lead-off hitter Allison Conyers in the first inning of the opener that led to four unearned tallies. Conyers scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Caitlin O'Hagan and Tara Nall hit a two-run homer that made it 4-0.

Jackie Hilterbran hit an infield single in the bottom of the first that scored Kaylee Hendon to get the Lady Evangels on the board.

A solo homer by Jordan Walters made it 5-0 in the second before the Lady Evangels plated a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Erica Love.

Walters then hit an RBI double in a two-run fourth inning that put the Cavaliers up by six runs. Walters went a perfect 3-of-3 with two RBI at the plate in the first game to pace the Cavaliers.

Hilterbran was 2-of-3 with an RBI for the Lady Evangels.

After Hilterbran pitched a scoreless first in the nightcap, the Lady Evangels made two errors in the top of the second that aided a three-run inning for the Cavaliers. Courtney Dodson hit a two-run double to cap the frame and put SGU in front 3-0.

Trailing 4-0 in the fifth, two more miscues by the Lady Evangels paved the way for three more tallies that put it away for the Cavaliers.

Sierra Gallego won both games for SGU, pitching four innings in the opener and seven scoreless frames in the second game. Gallego allowed only one run combined on the day and Devon Frazier blanked the Lady Evangels over the final three innings of the first game to pick up the save.

Tori Winters had a pair of hits in the second game for the Lady Evangels, while Whitney Anderson went 3-of-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead SGU.

The Lady Evangels will next play a doubleheader tomorrow (Mar. 29) at Ecclesia College beginning at 1 p.m. in Springdale, Ark.
