BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Broken Arrow police said a fatal wreck that occurred Thursday morning on the Broken Arrow Expressway may have been the result of a man committing suicide.

Police Major Mark Irwin said an investigation into the accident has revealed the unidentified deceased man made suicidal comments before he left his home and walked toward the highway.

The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. in the westbound lane of State Highway 51 near Kenosha and 71 Street.

Police initially believed the Broken Arrow man was hit by a car while trying to wave down someone for help. The driver of the car told police she did not even see the man until the moment her vehicle hit him.

The driver was not hurt. The westbound lanes of the Broken Arrow Expressway were temporarily closed while emergency crews cleared the road.

Police have since reopened the Broken Arrow Expressway.
