Oklahoma lake report

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Here are the conditions at Oklahoma lakes as reported Wednesday, Aug. 13, by the state Department of Wildlife Conservation and lake rangers.

Arcadia: Elevation 1/2 ft. above normal, water 90 degrees and murky. Blue catfish good to excellent on shad at 25 ft. up river channels in the mornings. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 5 to 6 ft. at the enclosed fishing dock at midday. All other fishing is fair. Report submitted by Linnie Mason, gate attendant.

Draper: Elevation normal and clear. White bass good trolling watch for surfacing activity on jigs, inline spinners and medium-diving crankbaits. Channel catfish fair on cut bait East side fishing docks. Report submitted by Tony Woodruff, game warden stationed in Cleveland County.

Hefner: Striped bass hybrids fair on cut shad. Crappie fair on small jigs along dam. Walleye fair on cut shad. Report submitted by Blake Pearson, game warden stationed in Oklahoma County.

Overholser: Channel catfish fair on shrimp and stinkbaits. Report submitted by Blake Pearson, game warden stationed in Oklahoma County.

Thunderbird: Elevation normal and clear. White bass good on points and humps trolling with inline spinners, medium-diving crankbaits and sassy shad also look for surfacing activity early mornings. Saugeye good off points at 7 to 10 ft. on sassy shad, jigs and medium-diving crankbaits usually move into shallower water late evening to feed. Wes Watkins: Elevation 1 ft. above normal, water 81 to 86 and murky, especially in feeding creeks. Largemouth bass poor with some action in early morning around grass and weed beds. White bass fair trolling silver colored crankbaits along the north side of the lake. Catfish good on worms, fresh cut bait, shrimp, minnows and stinkbaits. Crappie poor on minnows and jigs at 10 to 12 ft. around structure. Report submitted by M. Fowler.

Bell Cow: Elevation 1/2 ft. below normal, water 84 degrees. Crappie being caught on minnows at the boat docks early and late. Carp being caught on bait in late morning and early afternoon. Report submitted by Mike France, game warden stationed in Pottawatomie County.

Birch: Elevation normal, water 88 degrees and clear. Striped bass hybrids good on topwater lures early and late. Channel catfish excellent on cut shad and stinkbait. Report submitted by Spencer Grace, game warden stationed in Osage County.

Carl Blackwell: Elevation 1 ft. below normal, water 85 degrees and murky. Striped bass fair on live bait. Crappie good on jigs at 14 to 16 ft. Report submitted by Jon Cunningham, game warden stationed in Payne County.

Chandler: Bass fair on plastics. Catfish fair on dough baits and stinkbaits. Crappie fair on minnows. Report submitted by Gary Emmons, game warden stationed in Lincoln County.

Copan: Elevation 3 ft. above normal and murky. Crappie fair on minnow and jigs near submerged structure at 8 to 10 ft. Channel catfish fair on rod and reel, juglines with shad, stinkbaits and worms. Flathead and channel catfish good on fresh cut, live shad, worms and chicken livers below the dam. Crappie good below Cotton Creek bridge off of Hwy. 75. Eucha: Elevation slightly above normal, water 76 degrees and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows at 10 to 12 ft. around brush and structure. Largemouth bass fair on plastic baits at night. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.

Fort Gibson: Elevation 2 ft. above normal, water 88 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass good on jerk baits and salt crawls early and late. White bass good trolling bridges, rocky points and mud flats. Grand: Elevation 1 ft. below normal, water above Sailboat Bridge lightly stained, Sailboat Bridge to Horse Creek slightly colored to clear and Horse Creek to the dam clear. Crappie slow. Catfish good drift fishing around Bad Island and in the Horse Creek area, juglines good at 20 to 25 ft. on sunfish, shad, and goldfish. White bass starting to surface and stay up in Elk River, Horse Creek, Patricia Island, and Drowning. Bass around boat docks continue to get better on ten inch power worms, brush hogs, and jig-n-chucks around deeper structure and brush piles. Bass on Carolina rig and football jigs in deep in the main lake and off secondary points. Other good baits are fat free shad and DD22 crankbaits, topwater is good on buzz baits, spooks and frogs. Greenleaf: Elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits, spinnerbaits and plastic worms in grass along shoreline and at topwater in the mornings. Hulah: Elevation 1 1/2 ft. and murky. Crappie good on minnows and jigs near submerged structure at 7 to 10 ft. Channel catfish fair on cut shad. Kaw: Elevation 2 ft. below normal, water 84 and murky. Blue catfish good in Coon Creek flats on shad at 5 to 12 ft. on rod and reel, juglines and trotlines. Keystone: Elevation 2 ft. above normal, water murky. Largemouth bass fair on lizards and assorted plastics at 3 to 6 ft. in shaded coves. Smallmouth bass fair on crankbaits at 4 to 8 ft. around rocky banks and points. Spotted bass fair on shallow crankbaits at 1/2 to 3 ft. in creeks and moving water. White bass fair on minnows, spoons and tube jigs at 2 to 5 ft. below the dam and riprap. Striped bass good on topwater lures and bucktails at surface to 6 ft. below the dam and bridges. Channel catfish fair on cut shad and stinkbaits at 2 to 6 ft. below the dam and flooded banks. Blue catfish fair on whole shad at 3 to 8 ft. around drop-offs. Flathead catfish fair on live shad and goldfish at 2 to 10 ft. below the dam and rocky banks. Crappie fair on minnows and tube jigs at 6 to 14 ft. around bridges and brush piles. Lower Illinois: Elevation normal, water 58 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater spinnerbaits at 2 to 8 ft. in moss beds and rocky points. Striped bass excellent on shad and live trout at 2 to 10 ft. all along river during water generation. Channel catfish excellent on live and cut shad in deep holes all along river. Walleye good on minnows and jigs on bottom at the mouth of the river. Saugeye good on minnows on bottom at the mouth of the river and all along river. Trout excellent on flies, spinnerbaits and power baits at 2 to 5 ft. all along river. Remember to check generation times. Report submitted by D. Tracy, Town of Gore.

Oologah: Elevation 2 1/2 ft. above normal and rising, water mid-80's and murky on the south end and muddy on the north end. Blue catfish fair on juglines baited with shad fishing on flats at 15 to 20 ft. Crappie fair around brush piles using minnows and jigs at 10 to 15 ft. White bass fair trolling shad colored crankbaits at 10 to 15 ft. in the main lake early and late. Blue catfish are good below the dam on shad. White bass and crappie are fair below the dam on jigs. Skiatook: Elevation 1/2 ft. above normal, water upper 80's and clear. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits and soft plastics in deep water. White bass and striped bass hybrids fair on the surface early and late. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 10 to 20 ft. in brush. Sooner: White bass and striped bass hybrids fair on live shad up by the dam and good on topwater lures. Catfish fair on cut baits and live baits. Report submitted by Doug Gottschalk, game warden stationed in Noble County.

Spavinaw: Elevation slightly above normal, water 87 degrees and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around the dam area. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.

Tenkiller: Elevation 1 1/2 ft. above normal, water 87 degrees. Catfish good on stinkbaits at 17 to 21 ft. and drifting cut baits at 10 to 17 ft. Sunfish good in or near docks on worm-tipped jigs. Report by Monte Brooks Cookson Village Resort.

Webbers Falls: Elevation 3 ft. above normal, water murky. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits and spinnerbaits in creek channels. Channel and blue catfish good on cut baits and stinkbaits at mud flats. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at bridges and brush structure. Canton: Elevation normal. White bass and striped bass good trolling crankbaits and drifting shad and slabs. Walleye fair trolling crankbaits and drifting night crawlers. Channel catfish good drifting shad. Report submitted by Mark Walker, game warden stationed in Blaine County.

Fort Supply: Elevation normal, water murky. Channel catfish fair on stinkbaits all over lake. Report submitted by Mark Reichenberger, game warden stationed in Harper County.

Arbuckle: Elevation 2 ft. below normal, water 84 degrees. White bass are surfacing in mid-lake areas. Bass fair to slow using drop shot and Texas rigged big worms. Crappie slow. Channel catfish good on baited holes and good with sunfish on fly rod. Report submitted by Jack Melton.

Blue River: Elevation normal, water 80 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass fair on minnows and plastic lures. Channel catfish good on liver, blood bait and worms. Report submitted by Charles Baker, technician at the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area.

Eufaula: Elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass fair on plastics and Carolina-rigs around deep points. White bass fair on minnows at bridge piers at night. Blue catfish fair on fresh shad drifting the deep flats. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at bridge piers and brush piles during the day. Hugo: Elevation normal, water 86 degrees. Channel catfish fair on trotlines with sunfish. Blue catfish good on shad below the dam. Crappie fair on minnows around brush piles. Report submitted by Jay Harvey, game warden stationed in Choctaw and Bryan Counties.

Konawa: Elevation 1/2 ft. below normal, water 92 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater lures and crankbaits in schooling bass at 8 to 10 ft. in coves early and late. McGee Creek: Elevation 1/2 ft. above normal, water 87 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass fair on plastic craws and crawfish colored crankbaits at 6 to 18 ft. along rocky points and also on topwater lures early and late. Report submitted by Larry Luman, game warden stationed in Atoka County.

Murray: Smallmouth bass slow to fair early and late. White bass slow to fair on minnows and jigs early and late at night. Catfish fair on stinkbaits, chicken livers and minnows at night. Pine Creek: Elevation normal water clear. Crappie good on minnows around the old bridge at night. Bass good on soft plastics off of points and fair on topwater lures in the late evening. Catfish great on chicken liver. Report Submitted by Mark Hannah, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.

Robert S. Kerr: Elevation normal, water 86 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass slow on crankbaits and plastic baits at 5 to 8 ft. around rock jetties and the weed and woody structure next to deeper water. Crappie fair on minnows at 8 to 10 ft. around woody structure in the old creek channels. White bass fair trolling crankbaits at 8 ft. in the lower end of the lake. Blue catfish good drift fishing fresh cut bait and live bait at 10 to 20 ft. from Webbers Falls dam to the Tamaha area. Report submitted by Rick Olzawski, game warden stationed in Haskell County.

Texoma: Elevation 2 ft. below normal, water 88 degrees and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair to good on plastic baits around the points and creek channels. Striped and white bass good on live bait, slabs and surface lures from Platter Flats south. Channel and blue catfish good on stinkbait and cut shad in the Washita River arm of the lake. Crappie slow on minnows. Sunfish good on worms near the fish attractors. All other fishing is slow. Report submitted by Danny Clubb, game warden stationed in Bryan County.

Wister: Elevation 1 1/2 ft. below normal and murky. Largemouth bass fair on topwater lures, buzzbaits early and late. Crappie slow with some action on small spinners and jigs. Altus-Lugert: Elevation 15 1/2 ft. below normal. Walleye fair to good in deeper water on minnows. White bass and striped bass hybrids good on minnows. Crappie fair. Report submitted by Sue Hokanson, Quartz Mountain State Park.
