A major water line break early Saturday is leaving many Sand Springs residents without water service, as city crews work to restore flow following a failed infrastructure connection near Highway 97.
City Manager Mike Carter says the issue began around 3 a.m. near Highway 97 and Wekiwa Road, where a 16-inch line installed as part of an Oklahoma Department of Transportation project failed. Carter says city crews had to block off Morrow Road west of Highway 97 due to flooding.
The City of Sand Springs says the failed connection caused a significant water break that’s now impacting homes and businesses, especially in the northwest part of the city.
Sand Springs Water Maintenance crews are currently working on temporary repairs. City Manager Mike Carter said the goal is to get residents back online as quickly as possible.
“The important thing is to get everybody back,” Carter said. “I’m sure there is a number of people waking up this morning to no water and again we hope to get that restored and get the contractor back where they can finish their repair.”
As of Saturday morning, the city said repairs could last into the afternoon. Updates are being posted on the City of Sand Springs’ official Facebook page.
